It’s official: Atlanta will ring in the New Year with the traditional Peach Drop, but at a new location.
According to WSB, the City of Atlanta has confirmed reports that the annual festivities—held at Underground Atlanta for nearly three decades—will be relocated to Woodruff Park.
Specifics are not yet available, but indications are that the massive fruit could be suspended from Atlanta’s oldest standing skyscraper, the Flatiron Building.
The city anticipates releasing information by the end of Friday, but as of yet, the details of the event—which in past years has drawn more than 100,000 spectators—are still under wraps.
When we broke the news a few weeks back, a source indicated that $12,000 worth of confetti the city preemptively bought for the celebration of a Falcons Super Bowl victory early this year could be reused during the event.
There were also indications that Live Nation could be responsible for putting together musical performances, with a stage being erected on Peachtree Street.
With barely more than two weeks left until New Year’s Eve, expect details soon.
